This is a picture from 1952 of two best friends in Chicago who got caught by the police at night.

They used to sneak out at night to ride the L train.

The boys were James Davis, age 5, who was black, and Ronald Sullivan, age 8, who was white. At the train station, James fell asleep on a chair while Ronald watched over him.

They seemed like brothers who cared for each other, even though they had different skin colors.
