WHOEVER WROTE THIS SHOULD BE GIVEN AN AWARD!!! I AM A WOMAN!!! So what? I get into an argument with a man, he slaps me, I feel the pain, yet they tell me I provoked him. I should have been quiet, I should have been patient. I should apologize to him. I get into an argument with a man, I slap him, they tell me I have no respect, no home training. I should have been quiet, I should have been patient. I should apologize to him. Because I am a woman, I don't have a right to be angry. So, the degree of my innocence is directly proportional to the degree of my silence in the face of oppression and brutality..... Because I am a woman, my husband cheats on me, I am told to tolerate it to save my marriage. The barbaric and stupid excuse is that ''it is in their nature to cheat, I should slim down, dress better, cook better, pray harder and be more pleasant to him" I cheat, and I am called a whore, I have committed an abomination, I have no right to look elsewhere for the love a...

Last night, my wife was sleeping next to me...

Image
“Last night, my wife was sleeping next to me... and all of a sudden I got a Facebook notification, and a woman asked me to add her. So I added her. I accpted the friend request and sent a message asking, "Do we know each other?" She replied: "I heard you got married but I still love you." 😧 She was a friend from the past. She looked very beautiful in the picture. I closed the chat and looked at my wife, she was sleeping soundly after her exhausting day of work. Looking at her, I was thinking about how she feels so safe that she can sleep so comfortably in a completely new home with me. She is far from her parents' house, where she spent 24 hours surrounded by her family. When she was upset or sad, her mother was there so she could cry in her lap. Her sister or brother would tell jokes and make her laugh. Her father would come home and bring her everything she liked and still, she placed so much trust in me. All these thoughts came to mind, so I pickd up the ph...

"..In my family, my grandfather’s story often takes the spotlight.

"..In my family, my grandfather’s story often takes the spotlight. At 19, he left India for Pakistan and later moved to Hong Kong, where he was among the first 100 Pakistanis to join the British police force. He rose through the ranks, provided his children with education abroad, and retired with honor. This was the tale I grew up hearing—a story of a man who changed our family’s future.  Yet, behind his journey lies another story that resonates deeply with me. It’s the story of my grandmother, my dadi, who is the pillar of our family. While my grandfather’s achievements are celebrated, it’s my dadi’s strength and sacrifice that truly hold everything together. In 1957, as a young bride, she left Pakistan to join my grandfather in Hong Kong, where she struggled to find her place among the wives of other police officers. Over time, those women became her refuge. One of them became her closest friend. Their bond lasted over 60 years, with regular messages exchanged until her friend’...

Jim Meads was a photographer living in Hatfield, Hertfordshire near the Hatfield aerodrome in 1962. A pilot friend notified him on September 13th of that year that he would be test flying an English Electric Lightning F1 XG332 if he would like to come take some photos. Happy to get shots of the only British built fighter capable of Mach 2 speeds, he set out toward the airfield hoping to get photos of his children with the F1 landing in the background. The photo he ended up getting would become famous. As he and his family walked up, a grounds keeper for the airfield approached them in a tractor to tell them to leave the area. That’s when the plane went out of control at a very low altitude with the pilot ejecting at the last possible moment, setting up an incredible, one of kind shot (especially for the time). As it turns out, the pilot was not Mead’s friend, but another test pilot named George Aird. He landed on a tomato greenhouse nearby, crashing through the roof and breaking both l...

Image
The Inventor of the automatic traffic light was an African American named Garrett Morgan, he was an African American inventor notable for his innovative contributions. In 1923, he patented the automatic traffic light, an improved version of the manual traffic light, which included warning signals to regulate vehicle traffic more safely and efficiently. This invention was fundamental to improving road safety in modern cities. In addition to the traffic light, Morgan also invented a gas mask that protected against toxic gases and carbon monoxide, after witnessing a mine tragedy in which he helped rescue trapped workers. His gas mask was widely used and saved numerous lives during fires and industrial emergencies. These inventions not only highlight Morgan's technical skill, but also his commitment to public safety and welfare. His legacy lives on as an inspiring example of how innovation can make a significant difference in everyday life and in emergency situations.

Let’s talk about the movie 300 for a moment then get down to what the actual shit went down at the Battle of Thermopylae. Yeah the film ain’t at all accurate and is also racist as fuck. But! But! Maybe Dilios is an unreliable narrator who of course would be expected to laud his homeland while demonizing the invaders. Okay. Maybe. But maybe a huge swath of the audience doesn’t do nuance for shit. They just watched it and said fuck yeah Spartans are the saviors of beautiful white people freedom n’ ‘murica.  --On This Day in History Shit Went Down: August 20, 480 BCE-- It’s debated as to whether shit went down on August 20 or September 8, 480 BCE, but I had a good story for the latter already picked and here we are. Okay. Sparta was a city state in ancient Greece, and they were dicks. You don’t become a dominant military power without being a fecal incarnation. It’s just how it works. Spartans were also a minority, and they had all these great freedoms and shit for themselves while e...

The moment King Menkaure was unearthed, it was nothing short of a groundbreaking revelation in the world of archaeology. This magnificent statue, a staggering relic more than 4,500 years old from the illustrious Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt, was discovered amid the sands of the Giza plateau in 1908. Now proudly displayed in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, this artifact isn’t just a piece of history; it’s a bold testament to the unbreakable bond between King Menkaure and his queen, showcasing their lofty divine status and overwhelming authority. This is not merely a statue; it’s a declaration of their power, echoing through the ages.

In 1849, to escape 33 years of his life as a slave, Henry "Box"

In 1849, to escape 33 years of his life as a slave, Henry "Box" Brown shipped himself in a cargo box from Richmond, Virginia, to the abolitionist zone in Philadelphia. Henry Brown completed the 350-mile journey, barely breathing through the air holes he opened in his 60-centimeter-wide cargo box, and spent the remaining 50 years of his life as a free person.

I GOT PREGNANT THE DAY I GAVE MY LIFE TO CHRIST.

Image
I GOT PREGNANT THE DAY I GAVE MY LIFE TO CHRIST. ...That cold evening, after I'd said yes to that white man that died on cross they call JESUS, I staggered home from the campus fellowship where I was introduced to this man. I kept wondering what made me surrender to this Jesus that I never believed in. I used to feel like I've heard every shade of sermon in this world and none of them could make me change my mind from living the way I want. Is it John 3:16? I heard that everyday from the 'morning criers' that constantly visited our neighbourhood every 4am; very persistent like they knew I was persistent in surrendering my life.  Today's sermon was different, it was not just the regular John 3:16 overused metaphor. The love of Christ that was served that evening as I sat in the congregation was, if compared to a delicacy, Fried rice and chicken. A meal that I can't just forget like others, it was a meal, I would ever long for. I staggered to my lodge at odenigwe,...

Let's talk a bit about the oldest culture on earth: The Saan.

Let's talk a bit about the oldest culture on earth: The Saan.  The Saan people (also formerly referred to as Bushmen) are members of different Khoe, Tuu, or KxΚΌa speaking cultures. Those are the earliest known cultures in South Africa, spanning from territories like Namibia, Angola, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.  The Saan are among the oldest cultures on Earth and are believed to be the oldest human ancestors, with DNA tests proving they are the direct descendants of the first Homo sapiens. Although they have no official leader, they make decisions as a group where males and females are equal.

Harihar fort :Harshagad is a fort located 40 km from Nashik City, 48 km from Igatpuri, 40 km from Ghoti in Nashik district, of Maharashtra in India. Harihar fort was built during the Seuna (Yadava) dynasty period. It was surrendered to Khan Zamam in 1636 along with Trymbak and other Pune forts. The fort appears to be rectangular in shape from its base village. It is built on a triangular prism of rock. Its three faces and two edges are absolutely vertical (90 degrees). The third edge towards the west is inclined at an angle of 75 degrees. A one metre wide rocky staircase with niches in it is carved out for ascending & descending the fort. There are 117 steps in all. After you climb the first rocky staircase (main entrance) we walk thru below a overhang with a sheer drop. Again one has to climb a set of steep stairs (with niches), then pass thru a staircase inside the rock and then reach the top of the fort.

Hygieia and the Hippocratic Oath

Image
Hygieia and the Hippocratic Oath  Hygieia was the Greek goddess of health and hygiene. Her father Asclepius had as his symbol a rod, with a snake twined around it.  Correspondingly, Hygieia's symbol was a cup or chalice with a snake twined around its stem and poised above. Today, the cup or chalice of the goddess - known as the Bowl of Hygieia - is one of the symbols of pharmacy.  Along with the Rod of Asclepius, the Bowl of Hygieia is one of the most ancient and important symbols related to medicine in western countries.  Hygieia, along with Asclepius, Panacea (Greek goddess of universal remedy), and Apollo, were invoked in the original Hippocratic Oath. The Hippocratic Oath began:    “I swear by Apollo the physician,       and Asclepius, and Hygieia and      Panacea and all the gods and       goddesses as my witnesses, that,       according to my ability and      ...

In 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer killed two people.

In 1979, 16-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer killed two people. Her chilling reason: 'I don't like Mondays. On a quiet Monday morning in January 1979, the San Diego suburb of San Carlos was shaken by a tragedy that would leave an indelible mark on the community and the nation. Sixteen-year-old Brenda Ann Spencer, a seemingly ordinary teenager, committed an unthinkable act of violence that claimed two lives and injured nine others. When asked why she did it, her chilling response was, "I don't like Mondays." The day began like any other at Grover Cleveland Elementary School, located directly across the street from Brenda's home. Children were arriving for the start of the school day, unaware of the horror about to unfold. Brenda, armed with a .22 caliber rifle her father had given her as a Christmas gift, took up a position at her bedroom window. From there, she began firing at the children and staff members outside the school. The first victim was the school’s prin...

heard my mother asking the neighbors for salt. But we had salt at home

Image
I heard my mother asking the neighbors for salt. But we had salt at home . I asked her why she asked the neighbors for salt. And she replied, 'Because our neighbors don't have a lot of money, and they often ask us for something. From time to time, I also ask them for something small and inexpensive, so they feel that we need them too. This way, they will feel more comfortable and it will be easier to continue asking us for everything they need.' And that's what I learned from my mother... let's raise empathetic, humble, and supportive children with too many values to mention

L"Illumination is not a substitute for virtue, effort, or discipline,

Image
L"Illumination is not a substitute for virtue, effort, or discipline, but rather it is the reward for the high accomplishment of these virtues.  These kindly folk who believe that spiritual realization will relieve them of all their earthly responsibilities have too much of theology and not enough of philosophy in their souls.   Theology teaches to cast burdens on others but philosophy to carry them. Illumination is not the beginning of occultism, but the end of it. Few seek wisdom for its own sake, most desire it only as a solution to the discomforts of life.   While wisdom certainly releases a human from bondage to trivial annoyances, it also bestows a larger responsibility than one could ever know." πŸ”₯

On this day in 1927, the Shanghai insurrection took place as 800,000 workers walked out on general strike and a 5000-strong workers' militia seized arms and attacked police stations and army barracks. By the next morning the whole city, apart from the foreign concessions, was in the hands of the working class. They held the city until the arrival of the nationalist Kuomintang army, who until that point had been supported by the Chinese Communist Party and Soviet Union, who proceeded to massacre

During just the last decade of his 20-year rule, he was responsible for the murders of at least 3257 people, as well as the torture of 35,000 people and arrested tens of thousands more.

On this day, 25 February 1792, groups of ‘sans-culottes’ invaded shops in France forcing the merchants to sell their goods at affordable prices. The sans-culottes were the common people of the lower classes who, during the French revolution, became its radical partisans, fighting for social and economic equality and popular democracy. As a result, they were denounced by the upper-classes as ‘counter-revolutionary’.

SEX SLAVE  "When we got to that house, we were told that we were there for the sexual pleasure of the Japanese military ... We immediately started to protest. We said we were forced to, that they couldn't do this to us, they didn't have the right to  Doing it, it was against the Geneva Convention, and we never would. But they laughed at us, you know, they just laughed. They said they could do with us what they wanted. "   Jan O'Herne, Dutch "Comfort Woman".  One of the most heinous  war crimes committed by the Japanese Imperial Army in Southeast Asia during World War II was the ruthless sexual exploitation of 200,000 Asian women (Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Filipino, Korean and even Japanese) and 200  -300 Dutch and 30 Australian women.  During the war the imperial army, worried about the spread of venereal diseases, decided to open a chain of brothels in all the conquered territories in order to avoid this problem (this was an example of wh...

Image
On this day, 13 December 1937, the Nanjing massacre began when Imperial Japanese troops captured the city which was then the capital of China and began six weeks of murder, looting and rape which left 40-300,000 people dead. (Content note: this post contains graphic descriptions of violence and sexual violence) Japanese media at the time covered a contest between two army officers to see who could be the first to kill 100 people with a sword. After they surpassed the figure, they began another contest to see who could kill 150. Tens of thousands of civilians and surrendered soldiers were machine-gunned and thrown in the Yangtze River, blown up with landmines, or burned or buried alive. In addition to murders, around 20,000 people – children and adult and elderly women – were raped by Japanese soldiers: many of them were gang raped, and assaulted by being penetrated with bayonets, bamboo or other foreign objects. Despite the fact that the atrocities were widely reported by Chinese victi...

Image
On this day, 20 October 1952, Governor Baring of Kenya signed an order declaring a State of Emergency to use emergency powers to crush the Mau Mau rebellion against British colonial rule (content note: sexual and physical violence).  Early the next morning British authorities carried out a mass arrest of over 180 allegedly Mau Mau leaders in Nairobi. Over the coming years the British would murder tens of thousands of civilians, throw 3-400,000 or more into concentration camps and displace over a million more into army-supervised villages which were essentially prison camps.  On top of this British forces dropped over 6 million bombs on the country and carried out a mass campaign of torture, mutilation, rape and castration. Tens of thousands of men, women, children and even babies were killed to suppress the uprising. Despite the repression, Britain was forced to grant Kenyan independence regardless in 1963.

For prisoners at the Attica Correctional Facility in the early 1970s, life was an absolute nightmare.

Image
For prisoners at the Attica Correctional Facility in the early 1970s, life was an absolute nightmare. Meant to hold 1,600 inmates, the prison actually held around 2,200, which led to overcrowding and rationing of supplies. Most incarcerated people there were limited to just one roll of toilet paper per month and one shower per week.  It was only a matter of time before tensions boiled over — and that's exactly what happened in September 1971. Hundreds of inmates took control of the facility and held dozens of prison guards hostage. They then demanded more livable and reasonable conditions behind bars. At first, it seemed like the authorities were willing to cooperate. But then, police opened fire — which led to a brutal massacre of both prisoners and hostages

ABUSIVE HUSBAND

Image
ABUSIVE HUSBAND Abusive husbands didn't fall from the sky, someone raised a boy wrongly. Your 3 years old son gets angry whenever you give him food he doesn't want and throws it on you, you laugh and say "children ehh". Baby boy will lift his hands and sl*p you when he wants you to drop him. All you'd say is "you're beating mummy" No other child in that area messes with him. And you're calling him "A no- nonsense boy" He picks up things from the ground and hits people whenever he's stopped from doing something, you smile and call him "action boy! You expose him to all manner of violence and say "He's a man, man suppose get mind" Few years down the line the teenage boy bullies his sisters, commands them around, shares sl*ps as souvenirs to anyone who dares to challenge him. You call him "man of the house"  He grew up having his way all through. Now he's a full grown man in the society. And it's no...

When the United States declared war on Great Britain in 1812,

Image
When the United States declared war on Great Britain in 1812, in response to British impressment of American sailors on the high seas, the U.S.S. Constitution was one of only 17 warships in the U.S. Navy. By comparison, Great Britain had the most powerful and skilled navy in the world, with over 600 ships, eighty-five of which were operating in American waters at the time war was declared. It seemed to be an epic mismatch. When the war commenced, the Constitution was under the command of Captain Isaac Hull. Hull sailed his ship north out of Annapolis, to protect American shipping into New York and to raid British merchant ships sailing to and from Canada. At 2 p.m. on August 19, 1812, the Constitution encountered the British Frigate Guerriere. Even though the Constitution was larger and carried more guns than the Guerriere (56 to 44), the commander of the British vessel thought so little of American naval skills that upon spotting the Constitution he immediately decided to give battle...

Medal of Honor Monday! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Medal of Honor Monday! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ  At about this time in 1945, a hero receives the Medal of Honor from President Harry S Truman.  Silvestre Santana Herrera was perhaps an unlikely hero?  He was born in Mexico, but he had no idea that he wasn’t an American until he received his draft notice. Turns out that Herrera’s uncle had raised the boy as his own son in America. Herrera had been orphaned as an infant, and he had no idea that he’d ever lived in Mexico. Herrera could have avoided the draft, since he wasn’t an American, but his response was swift and sure: First, he enlisted in the Army. Second, he began studying to become an American citizen. “Well, my wife, Ramona, was born here in the United States and we have three kids,” he later explained, “so I’m going to the war to help my country.” Pfc. Herrera fought with Company E, 2d Battalion, 142d Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division in both Italy and France, but it was his bravery in France that would be remembered. Her...

Descent into Hell 1568 Oil on canvas, 342 x 373 cm San Cassiano, Venice.                                                                                                This monumental composition is constructed on two diagonally intersecting axes of movement: Christ is flying down above left, while Adam and Eve approach him below right. In the other diagonal two angels - probably Satan below left and Michael above right - are storming into the outermost corners of an overpopulated Limbo. The governing board of the Scuola del Sacramento of San Cassiano, who had commissioned the picture, anticipated their own redemption by having themselves depicted as the righteous of the Old Testament, directly behind the liberated figures of Adam and Eve, thus obtain...

Bouquet holder, ca.1855.

Image
Bouquet holder, ca.1855. Gold, enamel, diamonds, pearls & rubies (18.2 x 6.9 x 6.9 cm) Bouquet holder of pierced gold in a floral and foliate design, set with diamonds, twelve single rubies, two ruby semi-circles and seven large pearls, tapering toward a square tapering gilt metal shaft enamelled with turquoise spirals terminating in a suspension ring. This was a personal gift from the French Empress to Queen Victoria during the ten-day state visit to Paris in August 1855. The Queen, who particularly admired the jewels worn by the Empress, was clearly touched by her generosity. She recalled in her Journal on 26 August: ‘A week ago the Empress gave me a beautiful bouquet holder, in diamonds, pearls & rubies with the stem in enamel. She said nothing beyond hoping I would take the bouquet, and I felt quite shy about accepting it, and inquired through my dresser of her dresser, who then said she hoped I would retain it. It is quite lovely.’  The heavily jewelled vase and suspen...
